Far from Home Empty
PostSubject: Far from Home   Far from Home EmptyFri Oct 30, 2009 5:00 pm

The year is 2636 AD; mankind is extinct and has been for the past two centuries, the light of their species extinguished in a terrible civil war started by pressure from Earth on her colonies for supplies. The colonies revolted but Earth had the initial advantage of controlling who had ships and not allowing the colonies to communicate with each other and not allowing them private ships. The colonies somehow managed it and challenged the power of Earth, declaring themselves independent from Earth and severing ties of loyalty to her. The Government on Earth however was determined to bring their unruly children in the colonies back into the fold of Earth. A great war ensued and one side used a weapon so powerful, mankind was wiped out and Earth, was shattered.

On the far side of the galaxy was a ship, in the outer rim, an ancient colony ship sent out to the far edge to establish a point for early ships to get to. Other colony ships established bases close to Earth, the ‘Farseer’ as she was called did not. Launched from earth in the year 2057 AD; she has slowly made her way across the galaxy for nearly 600 years, her crew of colonists slumbering in cryo-stasis pods. Mankind still has a hope of survival, in a crew who doesn’t even know what has happened since they left Earth, and they haven’t found a world to colonise yet either, or will they colonise a world? They can’t turn back, a safe lock prohibits that so the fate of Earth shall remain unknown until one day, future man makes his way back to the cradle of his species, and finds what is there...

The pod opened, it was on the third row, one from the top row, a man fell out of the pod and landed on all fours, waking up and breathing heavily, he managed to stand up and looked out of the shielded window that spanned the length of the pod room, thirty-six columns each four pods high, not all the pods had a slumbering inhabitant, in fact, they were almost all empty, except for ten, in the middle columns. He gazed out the window at a nebula, blue with some pink in, stars were out there, most would have some planets around them...

Plan of the ‘Farseer’
Spoiler:

Character classes
Every class is essential to keep the ship running, without one class, the ships mission is likely to fail.
Pilot; can fly the ships in the hanger
Engineer; keeps parts of the ship running in good condition
Medic; keeps the crew in tip top condition
Colonist; a general class, they can do everything except the flying but don’t excel at anything much
Scientist; does experiments and can classify planets. They understand how to use the colonisation equipment

Equipment and Weapons
Although it is doubtful as to whether the crew of the ‘Farseer’ will meet aliens as none have been encountered by mankind before in a sentient condition, the crew was equipped with firearms, the best they had at the time.
Firearms and weapons are strictly 21st century weapons. As is the equipment. Note: Railguns have already been discovered and will be used in the US Navy by 2020 so weapons will be more powerful than what we have now, just take weapons we have now, make it slightly more sci-fi and there you go. Rail guns and other insanely powerful weapons are a no.

Character Form
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Class:
Appearance:
History(optional but helpful):
Reason for joining crew:
Personality:
Weapon of choice:

The Suit
Each crew member wheres one in white with light blue pieces in certain places. These are very protective, light and can survive space. The helmet can be removed and the visor lifted. All crew members start with their visor lifted for cryo-stasis. In the image, ignore the guns.

PostSubject: Re: Far from Home   Far from Home EmptyFri Oct 30, 2009 5:10 pm

Name: Aerul
Age: 24 (when he set out he was anyway)
Gender: Male
Class: Pilot
Appearance: Tall 6" 4', brown, messy hair, green eyes.
History(optional but helpful): Coming soon...
Reason for joining crew: To explore the comos!
Personality: easy going, hard to annoy, some times acts younger than his age
Weapon of choice: Take a look at what he has in the hangar
Spoiler:

Aerul panted, he had spent who knows how long in the cryo-stasis pod sleeping, a dreamless sleep that had passed quickly for his mind. He stared out of the window. "It's so beautiful" He mumured to himself. He turned and looked at his fellow crew members, slumbering in their individual pods, so few of us he thought. He slowly walked over to the computer terminel on his slightly wobbly legs, he had a sick feeling in his stomach, no time for that now though he thought to himself. He needed to get the rest of the crew out of their pods. "Computer, year please." He said
"2636 AD"
"Wow, that is a very long time. Status report, location in galaxy and when was the last time someone came out of the pods?"
"Status: Good condition, no damage or problems. Position: Far edge of the galaxy, oposite end of the galaxy from Earth. Your last question: You are the first to be let out."
"Flippin' heck... Begin process of extraction, let the rest out of their pods so we can get started on what we are going to do. Any transmissions from Earth?"
"Process starting. No transmissions."
There was a hissing sound as gas pipes and mechanics began to change the gas levels in the pipes and depressurise them so they could open, wake up and release the occupents...

Aerul watched one of the pods on the second row open, a man fell out of it and fell to the floor. Aerul looked at him for a moment and then realised it was the criminal that had been forced to join the crew. Aerul had very few problems with that, the more, the merry.
"Morning Bossimich, did you have a good sleep?" Aerul said, a smile coming to his face, he then laughed a bit, but quietly. "We have a big day ahead of us; naming, plotting and categorising planets and stars. We also should begin to consider where to stick this colony of ours."

Bossimich got up and looked around. He then looked at Aerul and said. "Where is my cigar? What year is it? And yes I did actually. Hang on... Who is in charge here?" He then started to walk around the cryo bay looking into each of the pods. "Where are my guns?" He asked after examining the pods...

"Well, they didn't pack any cigars when they sent us off, I don't know about the weapons, I was put into my pod while they were bringing the last equipment onboard, might be in storage, but at the moment we can't leave the pod rooms until we get our legs under us and the life support starts to work. Who is in charge? Thats what I want to know, the computer let me out first to wake you lot up so I guess I am and then you, it seems to let us out in certain order as none of the others came out with you. Which is what I expected, I have to confess. I don't think all the closed pods will open either, some of them will probably carry on slumbering, some might even be... oh dear, one of them is dead. Some one was very clumsy in shutting down this room as this pod has a crack in the cover and the person inside looks long dead."Aerul said, he finished looking at the skeleton trapped in the pod.

"Damn! No cigars? How am I supposed to keep my appearance of a tough gangster without my cigar? Hang on... What the hell are you wearing?" He looked down at Aerul's clothes. "Haha! Don't tell me they made you wear that? Well, they never got me out of my zoot suit." He looks down and straightens his tie. "Well, listen up sunny, I an I don't take kindly to orders unless you speak real nicely. Show respect as well, that what the Mafia do, nothing like those weekend warriors with uzis." He walked over to the computer and checked the date. "Holy... Mama and pa is dead... Sh*t. Well never mind. Right then captain... What do we do first?" He said checking his pockets for a cigar or a weapon. He felt naked without a gun...

"Well, the process of activating life support will take a while and making the ship habitable will also take a while, I suggest you use the console over there,"Aerul pointed to the small computer console a few meters away." to find something to occupy yourself with. Take a look at the map and memorise as much as you can because that would help you get around this ship. Right, computer, activate life support outside cryo pods room."Aerul said. He turned back to the window, to look out. "Isn't the veiw wonderful, I bet they didn't have anything like that in London, did they? They certainly didn't have anything like this up North I can tell you." Aerul turned back to the pods. "I wonder who will come out next..."

Bossimich walked over to the terminal and accessed his account. He got the map up and started memorising it. "Heh, well if you are a gangster living in London, you tend to forget about pretty things unless it was a women, a gun or a Bentley. I must say though it does look alright. I was just thinking, what is the exact point in those suits?" He asked before looking down again at the screen. "After this, what planet do we go to? I am guessing that blue and green one?" He pressed a button on the screen and a holographic map appeared. "Huh... interesting. What entertainment have we got on this tin can?" He asked before pressing a planet. The ship then proceeded to tell what little info it could about that planet like its atmosphere and how much water is on it...

"I don't think we are going to a planet soon, we need to complete our mission first. Actually, I can't seem to remember what it was... that is irratating. These suits are very protective, light and can enable you to survive space. For some period of time, if you have an air tank with you. Ask the computer the rest."Aerul said, checking up on life support progress."This ship is bigger than I thought, three floors, its going to take a while to fill."

He looked into the map and it changed to the schematics of the suit, telling him about it. "Huh. I got one in storage I think. Hang on... I hope there are women in the crew... If not then we are buggered." Bossimich then went pale at the thought of what could be waiting for them on the planets. "Computer! Tell us the first mission!" He commanded. "The first mission is to get the "Farseer" functioning again, XO Bossimich." The computer replied. "Uh.. Why am I an exexutive officer?" he asked Aerul...

"A what officer? I don't know what one of them is, probably means something strange in government language. As for a woman in the crew, the pod next to the one I came out appears to have on in as well, the computer however reads she isn't coming out at the moment. Only if something goes terribly wrong, I guess she must have a highly qualified job or something. I can't be bothered to try and get her out, takes to long and teh computer would probably shut me out at the moment."

BUMP! HOORAH, I POSTED ON THIS

Bossimich wandered around the cryo bay looking at the computers, into the pods and out of the windows. "Computer! Bring up Life support!" Bossimich shouted to the ship. "accepted" The computer replied and dropped down a small holographic computer. Bossimich pressed a couple of buttons and the door unlocked. "There, Well captain, I am going to find my guns Catch you later" Bossimich said before leaving the room...
