Post-Apocalypse

Post-Apocalypse Apocalypse2

2030, the year that marked the end of Mankind and most of Earth. A war sparked by rising racial tensions wiped almost all life from the face of the planet, nuclear weapons rained from the skies, but life survived, because so few nuclear weapons remained. There were enough to destroy every city, town and village on the planet, leaving only the ruins of mighty Metropolis’ behind (picture above). Some few of mankind survived, moving through the planet on foot, armed with firearms and more primitive close-combat weapons in order to survive, scavenging from ruins, raiding other group’s hideouts and harvesting some few, hardy but edible plant life. Others are more remote, cruising above the ground in small battleships that fly on primitive anti-grav thrusters, but these are rare and difficult to maintain, often they crash in remote places or get attacked by raiders, searching for supplies. The ruins are the only safe places to live in, everywhere else is just a barren, dust covered wasteland with virtually no life in, or water. In the Metropolis’ every group has a hideout deep in the ruins, wreckage and rubble and these are their safe houses against the frequent dust storms blown in by atomic winds from the wasteland. Life is not the same, and it never shall...

Areas
Ruins

These places are vast expanses of ruined or crumbling cities, broken only by the odd patch of wasteland where large parks used to be. It is in these places that the remnants of mankind has survived, bands of savage, primitive humans, wielding all sorts of weapons from clubs to old firearms from the lost era. But other life is here, more savage, vicious life, mutant life...
Wastelands
The vast expanses of dust, all that remains of the old, beautiful world. All the plants are gone, only the most hardiest of creatures live there and there is no water, too venture here is suicide, even for the best human survivor.
The Lit Places
In some places, mainly derelict, devastated apartments or flats as these have in many places somehow remained fairly intact, on the outside, many rooms and floors inside have collapsed or been “bombed” out. But in some areas in these places there are lights on, these highly sought after because they can help grow plants and resources don’t need to be expended in making some light.

Resources
Weapons

Almost anything in this post-apocalyptic era is a weapon, or can be fashioned into a weapon by those who know of the art of doing so, but these people are few, almost everything humans used to know is gone, the survivors have reverted to very primal creatures with some smattering of the former human intelligence lingering. The old, frequently derelict, handheld firearms of the lost era are highly valued by the groups of survivors and many of the frequent skirmishes are over these, are ammo for these.
Food and Drink
Another conflict cause is food and drink, commonly found in remains of supermarkets or freezers where the surroundings are suitable for non-perishables to survive. These places aren’t inhabited but are frequently raided, even after all the food is gone. Every hideout will usually have a freezer or something along those lines as a temporary storage, some of the more safe hideouts or ones in derelict apartments will sometimes have a small patch for growing edible, hardy plants.
Space
Space is plentiful in this savage realm but space for a good hideout or stopping place is little and contested, very aggressively.

The People and Creatures
People now, few though they may be, are complete savages, little intelligence apart from how to survive, build your hideout, use a weapon and killing prey has survived, talking is mostly intact although writing is gone. Fire is little used although where it can be used by burning certain substances (wood is gone, forgotten even) pulled from rubble and wreckage it is used. Looting of empty places is frequent as supplies and resources are the necessity for survival. Creatures however have survived, animals and mutants. These creatures are violent, aggressive and untameable although some can be eaten, unless they are mutants and then usually can’t. Some lizards have mutated to the size of dogs, medium to large, these can be found tamed by some groups of people, used to hunt and as pets.
Creatures
Dogs- Generally edible unless diseased, hunt in packs, very aggressive and don’t take kindly to intruders on their turf.
Mutated Dogs- Many different varieties, generally the same as dogs but they have smaller pack sizes, they are larger than dogs, inedible and mindlessly violent once they smell blood.
Cockroaches- small, numerous, reliable and common as a food sources if hunted in the right place
Mutated Cockroaches- large as mice, avoid, carry viruses and are not good to be around, may explode with many varying effects
Prowlers- Dangerous, 2-3 pack size, hunts in the night, kill any and all humans who wander in the night. None know what they are or what they look like, just don’t go out at night.
Trappers- Intelligent creatures, set primitive traps that are very obvious to alert hunters but not to animals or mutants.
Silent- The sentinels of the ruined metropolis’. They are as still as statues, never moving always watching, none know what they are waiting for, none may ever know as the Silent are so few in number, Silent vary in types but are generally humanoid
Gliders- Savage, reptilian flyers, these are large, they glide often, sometimes flapping their large wings as they hunt down their prey, they hunt in large packs and using their toothed beaks they make short work of their prey, which includes smaller creatures, edible
Flyers- Similar to gliders but less aggressive, some have been tamed by humans solely for watching who enters their territory and alerting group members to the incursion.
Cats- Rarely seen but these creatures usually herald a coming danger, edible
Mutant Bunny- Large, aggressive and generally a killing machine, these attack on sight, edible

Now that you know what is there...
Rules
-Usual Forum rules apply.
-Characters cannot be overpowered
-No clothing that has obviously come from “today”
-No mechanics on burned out vehicles, yet
-Romance is allowed
-flop is allowed but only mentioned, not described, both players must agree to it if it is player and player, a time skip must be put in place instead of teh description of it.
-Strict hierarchy must be made early on, contesting for a higher position is usually a duel

All players’ chars start as part of one group, which may be named later on. Each char may have one primitive weapon (more maybe obtained later on), the group starts with a tame flyer and a tame lizard. The lizard herder is generally safe but has to look after the lizard, the flyer rider is at danger from being attacked by gliders and other groups, he/she is the eyes of the group and has to look after the flyer. More Lizards and Flyers may be obtained later on.

Name: Nero
Gender: Male
Appearance: Long white hair, pale skin, a gaunt pale face.

Clothing: On his chest he wears a light, makeshift plate armour pieced together from pieces of flat metal hammered in a certain shape. On his legs and arms he wears breeches made from animal hide. Don't ask what animal.
Weapon: Anything that comes to hand. But he also has a crossbow, found amongst the ruins. His ammo is rarely actual arrows, but any cylindrical piece of metal or wood can be fired, if of the correct size. He has collected many of these, and put sharp metal on most.

Personality: Cold, calculating and while not cruel, definitely feels no compassion for others. Is very careful not to start caring or get close to anyone.
Other: Works as a killer, basically. He guards hunting parties against creatures or other parties.

Character Form
Name: Jek Van Hoff
Gender: Male

Appearance: Dark blonde hair in a ponytail (my hair colour and hairstyle in real life) Plae skin, gaunt, one blue eye, one hazel, warrior paints. lots of muscle, lean. Huge gash over his cheek, sharpened teeth,
Clothing (primitive, nothing more): flyer hide shorts (sort of, cover his genitals and parts of his legs) no shirt, dog skin shoulder pads, skulls from past fights litter his body (kind of armour) teeth on a necklace around his neck, pieces of metal hammered into shape (not many of them), also, he has crude boots made out of metal, hide and wood. The hide
is on the inside to stop his feet from getting cut or damaged.
Weapon (again, primitive): A piece of pole as his spear (sharp end) crude axe, flint dagger, rope with rocks on either end (animal rope. Could be intestines), a bow (arrows from anything)

Personality: quiet, gets angry fast, very dangerous when angry, can be a good friend, goes crazy when fighting, proper bezerker, likes the ladies, not to be pushed around. He will take orders as long as it don't harm his friends or family, not very assertive, he is one of the very few people left in the world who likes to stay clean, bathing when able.
Other: He is a good hunter and tends to be stuck with guard duty for the important things, if you need a mental guy who flirts with death, he is your man. Plus he kinda frothes at the mouth when going bezerk.
That is it so far.

Aeri sat astride the large flyer, above her group, she couldn't see anything of any note, nothing, it was too quiet, but then it always was. She held her spear loosely in her hand, surveying the path a head to a large landmark, it was a large skyscraper that had fallen over on its side, it looked deserted, but one could never tell from this distance, she looked down at the two men of the group, Nero and Jek, Nero silent and brooding, always brooding while Jek was confident, striding slightly ahead of Nero. The Lizard was moving along side Nero, it prefered Nero to Jek for some reason, she guided the flyer lower so she could easily call to the two men. "The possible hideout is a head, not long, a few minutes, looks deserted."

Jek looked up at his friend and replied "Yeah sure thing! Should I go in and check it out first?" Jek looked around and saw the lizard, the thing wasnt very fond of Jek. Maybe it was because when he found it, he had to beat it to the ground. He shrugged and jumped over a crashed column and landed on a small creature. "Eugh, yuk. Now I have to clean my shoes now." Jek said and at the same time, shook his head. he jogged further onwards while waiting for a response...

Nero nodded.
"Good." He said. And that was all.
The lizard padded along next to him. He liked it. He liked reptiles, generally. Perhaps it was because they were somewhat like him.
He could see the skyscraper vaguely over a mountain of scrap metal. He tightened his grip on his crossbow.
He needed a close range weapon, though- the crossbow took too long to reload. He glanced around, and knelt to pick up a metal spike. It was heavy but easy to move. Perfect.
Nero was far stronger then he looked. He was thin, but there was near no fat on his body- all muscle.
He quickened his pace. The sooner they were in a base the better.

"Fien go a head you thick skulled dolt! Let any hiding gliders have you for all I care..." jek got further away from Aeri, "Stupid idiot if you can hit you are happy... Nero, i am going up a head to watch what happens to him." She said to Nero. She sat up and then bent over, she guided the flyer forwards. She scanned the surrounding ruins and rubble for any attackers.

Jek was used to this sh*t from her, just because she found them and united them. Jek tutted and jogged on into the building. All was dark, a couple of cockroaches but not much in the lower halls. He went further into the building with his spear in hand, there was a mutant cockroach in there and a dead man. Jek stabbed the roach and jumped out of the way before it exploded. He got up and went further in, more cockroaches, nothing too bad. He killed several and walked over to a collapsed piece of the building, He could see an opening further ahead. He walked out and gave the all clear. He went across it to the openig and saw a wounded glider. Jek was quick and stabbed it through the head, killing it in seconds...

Aeri sat on the glider, watching Nero catch up, she was circling slowly over the hole in the wall where Jek had gone in, she was circling low as well incase any were watching. She was watchful of any possible attackers and also was waiting for Nero to catch up.

Nero rounded the scrap metal mountain, and saw the overhang underneath the collapsed skyscraper. It was filled with rubble, but there was perhaps a discernable route through it...
He grasped his spike, and walked into the hole after Jek.

Jek looked closely at the new corpse and noticed something hard underneath it. he pushed the glider off and found an egg clutch of around 30 eggs. A perfect food source. If they could farm them, it would be alot easier to survive. He went over the bridge and noticed a hole underneath the damaged structure. He found an easy way down and saw that the place was perfectly sheltered with lots of concealed escape routes. He also noticed a water hole in the pit. He saw several places and quickly drew up a plan for the layout of the base. He clambered out of the pit and beckoned his companions in...

Nero climbed down into the pit, still silent. He stood in it, looking around. His instinct was to immediately rush to the water, but he quelled it. First to check around..
It certainly seemed spacious enough, he thought. And there were various softer materials with which to make beds.
It seemed like a perfect base.

Aeri, dismounted from the flyer and lead on the lead she had tied around its neck a while ago. She led it through the hole and eventually into the pit. She tired the flyer to a spike near teh entrance and walked to teh middle of teh pit where a single, small ray of sunshine coming from a small hole cast light around the room. "I am going to sleep on one side, you two can have the other side, and if one of you even thinks of trying to get close to me in the night, I will gut you and then use your guts as a decoration." She told teh two of them before pulling things out of the rubble to make a small 'nest' for herself

Jek nodded and said "One thing you might like to know, there are glider eggs upstairs. If we can farm them, it would be a good food source. Also, I am not tired. I will be on guard duty if you need me." He walked off to the hole and found a perfect place to sit and guard. It was covered with a small place to see through, perfect. He was also thinking about how to spruce up the place. There was plenty of room and the cooler part was where the water was, a good place to store food. Also was a small dip which could be the pen for the lizard. He sniffed and looked outside the camp, watching for wasters...

Aeri mused to herself as she finished off her small 'nest' she waled over to the hole into the space above the pit "Watch out for any raiders, they sometimes move at night, despite the prowlers!" She called up to Jek before heading over to her 'nest'

Nero pulled together various hides and softer bits orf rubble to form a makeshift bed, at lay down on it. He didn't need much sleep, so he didn't mind if it was very uncomfortable. He'd sleep well enough. He turned over on his side, and fell asleep.

The night was passing by withou no excitement. Jek was leaning against his post waiting for something, anything to happen. Bored, he whistled the lizard over and slowly it came. "Samsam, stay here. Guard." Jek told the lizard and it did as it was told. Jek walked off into the pit to get his little area sorted. He found some bricks and a couple of sheets of metal. He used these to make his wall, a small circular thing in a corner. He found some sharp poles and stuck them into the ground next to the opening. He walked through and dug out a small dip to put his bed. He went scavaging in the nearby building and found an old mattress, he took it and stole the dead man's clothing. They smelt horrid but beggars can't be choosers.
He dragged these back and put them into the hole, mattress first and then the clothes over it as a cover. "The first thing tomorrow is to clean them." Was all jek said. He continued finding stuff from outside, including the glider corpse. He ripped the wings off and took them as covers to pull over him. He dug a small pit and filled it with a little bit of water, to clean himself with. Eventually he filled the bedroom with skulls and skeletons. He even used a ribcage to put his weapons. Satisfied, he walked off to his post and waited out the rest of the night...

Aeri woke up the next morning to silence, Nero was still asleep and Jek had not returned, she looked at his "nest" it was full of the skeletons of victims of prowlers, which is just disgusting. She made a mental note to herself to go hunting for supplies to build up the hideout, not food, they had enough food for now. "Where are the other group members?" She muttered as she clambered out of the pit and headed up to the surface. She remembered the attack on the groups last hideout. For all she knew, the three of them was all that was left of the group. She reached teh surface and looked out into the dawn light, the weak, orange sun rising slowly out of the parting grey clouds to begin to bathe the city in light. She turned to Jek. "I think I will take Nero out to hunt for things to build up this hideout of ours, do you mind staying here to guard with the lizard, don't feed the flyer either, I am not t aking it because it needs a rest."

Also one other thing, I seem to have left my bow there, can you get that for me please? C'mon Samsam, let's put up more defences." For now we have a enough food, maybe tomorrow we might get some, once we have worked out who our neighbours are. Come on." Aeri told Nero before hoisting her spear over her shoulder. Aeri began to walk into the ruins.

Jek watched them walk off and hauled some wood and steel over his shoulders. He took them to the entrance and stuck them into the floor as spikes. He looked at the little crevice and decided to spruce it up a little bit. He made a crude axe and started hacking, slowely changing it's shape.
After about 2 hours of work, he put the axe away and looked at his work. It was a more defined arch with small indentations and patterns. It looked fairly nice. Jek walked off into the ruins and got some animal skulls and rope. He tied the skulls along the top of the arch and made a pretty pattern out of them while still making it a warning to raiders.
Jek walked over to his little spot and took the clothes. Time to clean them... He sat there for half an hour and scrubbed at them, getting rid of the smell. He put them back and made a knife. He sat down on his bed and took the surrounding skeletons. He had the idea to make little sculptures out of the bones and so, he got to work making patterns in the bone and finding ways to bind them together...
